The NHBRC warns the public to act with caution when dealing with third party agents who advertise NHBRC builder registration services to prospective builders through social media platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp and Instagram.
Those adverts are misleading and are aimed at defrauding builders of their hard earned money. NHBRC has 23 offices across the country where builders can walk in and apply for registration. Builders can also visit our website on nhbrc.azurewebsites.net for more information on how to register with the NHBRC.
âBuilders who buy fake registration certificates will not be able to enrol houses nor undertake any building work that requires NHBRC registration. As the housing watchdog it is our responsibility to protect our clients against all manner of fraudulent activities. We view these scams as a very serious matter and action will be taken against everyone involved,â said NHBRC CEO Mziwonke Dlabantu.
To register with the NHBRC is as easy as:
- Downloading the application form on nhbrc.azurewebsites.net
- Completing the form;
- Returning the form with supporting documents to your nearest NHBRC customer care office;
- Making a payment (registration fee is R745.61); and
- Writing a technical test
The public is advised to report any advert that promises to provide any person with a NHBRC builder registration certificate to our Fraud Hotline 0800 203 698.
We strongly urge consumers to be vigilant and to exercise caution when dealing with contractors/developer/builders by ensuring that they verify their registration with the NHBRC by consulting with their nearest NHBRC Customer Care Office on either our toll free number (0800 200 824) or on the website nhbrc.azurewebsites.net.
